birth is hard work!
now lets see...
monday april 7th at around 10:30 in the night time, i stood up to get ready for bed and my water broke. it was a good week and a half before i was due and tho i thought i might go early, i didnt think it would be quite that early. so i sat on the toilet and had nico call cathrine. she confirmed that it sounded like my water had broken and to get some rest and call when the contractions were regular.
all that night i had little contractions, but nothing really strong and noting regular that stuck for more than a half hour. needless to say, i tryed so hard to sleep, but really couldnt drift off for more than a hour or two.
the next morning, still not increase in either regularity or strength of contractions and by late morning, they were totally gone. i got accupuncture twice once mid day and once before bed that tuesday to try to start things up again. cathrine also came over and checked on me and the baby. we were both fine. cathrine said that if the accupuncture didnt work to try castro oil.
that night i went to bed and seriously conked out for 4 hours and then woke up to take my temperature and see if i felt anything. still nothing. so i went downstairs and drank the castro oil and soda (yuck!!!) and went back to bed. about an hour later, i threw it all up. and im still ever so fearfull of castro oil. it didnt do anything but empty me out.
cathrine made an apointment for me with and to try to jump start things again. so at 9am wednesday april 9th nico and i went to the nd's (i think her name is mary) office and she gave me two herbs to drink and did a bit more accupuncture.
i had iregular contractions durring the apointment and they kinda continued on and off till we made it home and i went imediatly upstars to take a nap.
i had talked to nora and she said that if i hadnt started labor before 5pm, it would be a good idea to go to ohsu and have a hospital induction.
but all thru my nap, i had what felt like regular contractions that were strong enough to not let me fall asleep. so i went down stairs after an hour and tried to relax some more. i also downed a buncha chocolate almonds and breakfast potatos and asked nico to get stuff to make a milkshake (thankfully he didnt). it all seemed like light snack food at the time.
i guess some time between noon and 1, i offically started labor. a little bit before that, carissa and kate put an antibotic iv in me incase i had to go to ohsu later. i believe right after that, i threw up all my earlier "snacks" in the bathroom sink. i promised to take a walk to get things to make the contractions longer and stronger tho i really didnt want the contractions to get longer and stronger because they already hurt alot. but nico and i took a walk to the end of the block stoping every other house to have me lean on nico and squeeze his arm as hard as i could. when we made it back to the house i think i got the contractions still comming every 2-3 mins since the begining to go from 20 seconds to 40 seconds.
i layed down on the couch again only to move once my friend jess came over to help. she brought over some smells for me to smell and that was really nice for me tho everything smelled totally diffrent that usual.
at some point kate came back to check to see how dilated i was. i thought since it was still not too long in to labor, that i would only be 3cm or something, but i was 7cm! that was exciting. i tryed many positons and none of them were comfortable. but moving around helped and gave me something to do.
somewhere in there, nora a carissa came over but im not really sure when. i think that before nora came over, i felt wrens head moving down lower in my body.
at some point, some people started filling up the pool. by the time i got in the pool, i felt like pushing. nora checked me and said to wait a little bit because i still had a tiny bit of cervix still there.
i believe that while waiting to push i may have said cant someone else finish this for me. and i also think that i got a 5 min break where i took a quick nap.
for some reason even after nora had given the ok to push, i remember thinking that it wasnt ok yet. i think she had to tell me that it was ok to push several times before i pushed. with each push i think i was moving wren down another #. at one point nora said that if i wanted to reach down, i could feel wrens head starting to come out. so i did. her head felt very squishy. someone else said that if i wanted to watch she was about to come out and i decided not to watch. pushing was hard enough already. i wanted to concentrate on getting her out. on my last push i opened my eyes and saw a baby inbetween my legs where there was no baby before and i believe i said i cant believe im pushing a baby out of me!
at 7:43 pm after a 7 hour labor with 30 mins of pushing, i birthed me a baby girl! it was amazing! it was the most amazing and painful and cool thing ive ever done. im super proud of myself and nico and wren. im so thankful for all the perfect help and support i got from nora, carissa, kate, nico and jess.
baby wren was placed on my chest and nico and i both cried and it was the best. she was so perfect and squeeky and cute. and she still is.
even after all the last min. glitches like wren having to be turned and my labor stalling out, it was everything i could have asked for and more. amazing.
